New chairman for Malta Motorsport Federation
Tonio Cini has been unanimously elected chairman of the Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) following the resignation of Joe Anastasi. The MMF Council decided to call an Extraordinary General Meeting last week during which the club and association members present, 13 out of 14, approved the motion to discuss the annual report, finances and subsequently elected Cini, 39, as new chairman.
Representing the All Wheel Drive Club, Cini has been involved in motorsport for the past 16 years. His election comes at a crucial moment as the federation is looking to attract more organisations to its fold.
Meanwhile, the federation announced that it has started to implement a strategic three-year plan for the benefit of local motor sport.
The project is intended to address the internal process and operational performance of the federation, the drafting of technical regulations and competition rules and the Common Organising Conditions Guidelines (COCG). There will be seminars to improve the safety aspect during motor sport activities.
The Council thanked outgoing president Brian St John, from the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, and Anastasi, from the Island Radio Model Car Club, for their contribution towards setting up the federation.
