Competition Licensing

The MMF in accordance with the FIA International Sporting Code and relative FIA Appendices issues Competition licenses in line with the principals and guidance of FIA Appendix L. All licenses gradings follow a similar coding reference as per the table below.

As of July 2026 the MMF was onboarded to the FIA Digital Licensing app which is available on Google and Apple store. All competition license applications are not done via this app.

Specific coaching services are not obligatory for licensing purposes, however in highly competitive events and disciplines it is strongly recommended to seek the appropriate coaching and guidance for your own safety and personal improvement.

Below are the general and discipline specific requirements. These apply to all disciplines except Esports.

All licenses, irrespective the date of issue shall expire on 31st December of the calendar year of issue.

General Requirements

– A Medical report on the form found <here>, completed by a doctor of sports and exercise medicine (list here) for any speed based where the top speed can exceed 60km/h.
– For applicants over the age of 45, a stress ECG passed and confirmed as clearance by a doctor of sports and exercise medicine or higher. This will be valid for the license of 2 calendar years.
– Registration to the FIA E-Learning platform at https://elearning.fia.com/learn/signin and certificate as per class requirement using Branch Code “DRIVER-SRG”

Karting Parent / Entrant Specific Requirements

– FIA E-Learning Certificate of the course named Driver Safety Training Circuit

– FIA E-Learning Certificate of the course named Positive Sporting Parent / Guardian

Karting Specific Requirements
– FIA E-Learning Certificate of the course named Driver Safety Training Circuit

– On upgrading from a Club to National level I written assessment outcome from one of the MMF Approved Karting assessor

Hillclimb Specific Requirements

– Drivers license
– FIA E-Learning Certificate of the course named Driver Safety Training Roads

Circuit Specific Requirements

– Certificate of Completion of a circuit racing course and confirmation by an ASN approved Coach

– FIA E-Learning Certificate of the course named Driver Safety Training Circuit

Team License Requirements

There is no obligation for a Racing team to hold a Team license in Malta, however this is strongly recommended, especially in the Karting segment.

A Team license shall be required where a Team Manager shall or may be dealing for the team, its drivers, its mechanics and staff at any time during an event, protest or similar / related.

If a team license is not held then all representations need to be made in person by the driver (or entrant) in writing as per sporting practice.

Personal Accident Cover

Each license issued as Club, National or International level includes Personal Accident cover, as per the policy in the Reference Information below.

Any license taken out from 1st January (or earlier renewal opening date) to 30th June of a calendar year shall pay the full Personal Accident Premium. When the license is taken out after the 30th June of a calendar year then 50% of the Personal Accident Premium is paid.
