Friday 11th October is a date which all classic car and motorcycle enthusiasts should highlight in their diaries, since this is the day on which 50 or so of the very best classics on the Island will come together and compete for the prestigious Best in Show title for 2013 in the Mdina Concours d’Elegance.
Originally launched as a support event paired with the annual classic street car race event, the Mdina Grand Prix, the Concours d’Elegance has grown in stature and is now recognized as the top-ranking collector vehicle show on the Island, to which local and foreign visitors, young and not so young, flock in ever-increasing numbers.
The Mdina Concours d’Elegance is a contest of elegance and excellence. Classic cars and motorcycles are judged for their historic accuracy, their technical merit and their style. Early bookings already indicate that the 2013 Concours d’Elegance promises to surpass its stunning record of prestige and mechanical excellence achieved in past editions of the event.
The success of the Mdina Concours d’Elegance rests largely on the expert knowledge of the judges invited to assess the cars and motorcycles competing for the honours. The event serves also as a platform on which the expert judges are afforded the opportunity of contributing to the automotive world as a whole through the establishment of an accurate and official record of the vehicles competing.
With automotive styles and technologies that span over 100 years taking part in the event, the organizing Foundation’s aim is to promote the celebration of automotive excellence, both past and present, amongst existing enthusiasts and those hundreds of other visitors who will be joining them in Mdina to admire the vehicles exhibited in all their splendour and to enjoy the company of others with like intent.
